Today we discuss “what’s up” with the current state of affairs on GMO labeling laws. Vermont passed mandatory labeling by voting ballot and their law is set to go into effect July 1st. Massachusetts got approval for GMO labeling, passed by 85% of state legislature, and it will be on the voting ballot this November. It is expected to pass by a wide majority of voters.

There was another recent news item that very few people knew about, presumably because it didn’t make the 6 o’clock news. This was the environmental working group’s list of pesticides in produce. They have 2 separate lists, which are: the bad 12 and the good 15.
Spoiler alert: most of the produce on the good list have skins that can be peeled off. So it is not so much that the fruit or vegetable has not been sprayed, but that the pesticide residue does not include the edible portion of the fruit. Here is the link: http://www.ewg.org/

Here is a link to an Op-Ed piece from the Los Angeles Times about GMO labeling: http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-0412-miller-gmo-labels-unscientific-20160412-story.html
